ITINERARY

In the morning meet your Tour guide/driver at hotel’s lobby. Drive through Styria region that is spread among Slovenia and Austria and reach the city of Graz. Welcome to Graz, the second-largest city in Austria after Vienna. For centuries, Graz was more important to Slovenes, both politically and culturally, than the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana and strong ties remained to this day. Have a walk through Graz’s historic center, one of the best preserved ones in Central Europe and learn about this UNESCO listed city which is boosting with another title from 2008 – City of Culinary Delights.
Upon arrival to Graz, we will take a walk through historic center where, recently, some amazing modern buildings joined old ones; The Schlossberg (Castle-hill) offers views over the medieval and Italian Renaissance buildings of Old Town, Graz’s landmark – old Clock Tower from 13th century, Cathedral and Mausoleum of Habsburg emperor Ferdinand II., Glockenspielplatz where we might witness clock show, Main square surrounded with beautiful buildings from different periods and last but not least modern part with Kunsthaus museum also called ‘Friendly Alien’ and ‘Murinsel’ or Island in the Mur river. Followed by free time to explore on your own. Suggestions and pointers will be given to you by your guide: perhaps enter contemporary-art place Kunsthaus Graz, find controversial anomaly on the post-WWII stained-glass window in town parish church, admire one of the biggest collections of weapons in Armoury etc. Oh, have we mentioned shopping?

An optional Extended version of Graz in a day: Add something different to this day – a visit to the village of Thal, where American actor and former politician Arnold Schwarzenegger spend first 19 years of his life. You will visit his childhood house, now a museum, displaying Arnie’s life and career. In the extended version, approximate return to Ljubljana will be at 8 pm.
